Lawn fertiliser makes the difference between an okay lawn and an excellent lawn, one that is luscious and resilient. You can tell a lawn is in good condition by just looking at it, so what colour should it be?

A well-maintained lawn is dark, almost emerald green and the use of fertiliser is essential in providing this result.
Why We Fertilise Your Lawn
Lawns can take a pounding! Think of everything your lawn does for you. You might walk on it to hang washing, sunbathe on it, children or grandchildren might play on it and if you have a decent garden, you may host parties or barbecues on your lawn. Additionally, the weather – snow, excessive rain, or a drought – stresses a lawn, and it seems we are becoming more and more liable to these extreme weather conditions.
This means your lawn needs help including food. After all, it is only fair after everything it does for you.
What Is The Best Fertiliser To Put On A Lawn?
Slow Release Fertiliser
A top fertiliser that we use is a slow release feed also called a PSCU feed. It does this by having two specially engineered coatings that stop the fertiliser dissolving instantly when it rains. This means that it instead of lasting three weeks it will last for up to three, maybe even four months.
This fertiliser is so good because its slow release feeds allow the grass plants to use up all the nutrient in the feeds. Most fertilisers dissolve into the soil and only a small percentage is used by the grass plants, the rest leaches through the soil. Here are some of the main advantages of the PSCU feed.
- Remains stable despite changes in the weather – perfect for the UK I think you will agree.
- Doesn’t just leach away and get wasted.
- Encourages even regular growth instead of sudden surges. Overall it reduces mowing frequency.
- Supports a really healthy lawn and reduces suffocating thatch build up.
Organic Fertiliser
The second fertilser we use is an organic feed that is produced from sustainable sources. We use it in all our seeding work. It helps produce a lush, green, healthy lawn.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lawn Fertiliser
Is lawn fertiliser safe to use with pets?
Not all lawn fertilisers are safe to use with pets, BUT ALL THE LAWN FERTILISERS WE USE ARE. We have a dog ourselves and happily let her out on our lawn when it has just been fertilised.
When is the best time to use lawn fertiliser?
We recommend your lawn is fertilised around six times a year. This means we will be fertilising, spring, summer, autumn and winter. Grass needs to be fed regularly, no matter the season. This includes fertilising when it might rain because rain doesn’t stop the fertiliser we use from working.
Can I use lawn fertiliser on new seed?
Yes, you certainly can. We do however recommend soil reconditioning before you sow seed and can provide this service for you.
Do you use feed and weed type fertilisers?
We accept these types of products have a place in lawn care for some people, although we don’t commonly use them ourselves. This is because if they are used slightly heavy-handedly they can destroy a lawn, burning the grass. If a lawn is well maintained, including scarification and hollow-tine aeration, the growth of weeds is reduced which includes moss.
